1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and ("we", "us"), which operates LucidGrammar. By using the LucidGrammar website, account, or the Proofread for Windows app (together, "the service"), you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
2. The service
LucidGrammar helps you improve your writing:
- Grammar and spelling checking, powered by LanguageTool. It doesn't use AI.
- Tone adjustment, which rewrites text in a tone you choose, and summarizing. These two features use AI models from third-party providers.
We never store your writing. See the Privacy Policy for how your text is processed.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information and keep your email address current, because we use it for security messages.
- Keep your password private. You're responsible for activity on your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used it.
- One person per account. Don't share accounts or create accounts to get around allowances.
4. Free use and allowances
The service is currently free. Visitors without an account get a limited number of free grammar sessions and AI requests. Accounts get a monthly allowance of AI requests, which renews at the start of each calendar month (UTC); unused requests don't roll over. Each tone rewrite or summary uses one request, and failed requests are refunded. Grammar checks don't use requests.
We may change free limits and allowances. If we introduce paid plans, we'll show the price and terms clearly before you commit to anything, and you won't be charged without agreeing.
5. Your content
You keep all rights to the text you enter and to the results the service produces for you. You give us permission to process your text, and to send it to our providers, only to deliver the feature you ask for. We don't store it or use it to train AI models.
Only submit text you have the right to use. Please don't submit other people's sensitive personal information, passwords, or payment details.
6. AI results
Tone rewrites and summaries are generated automatically and can be wrong, incomplete, or change your meaning. Grammar suggestions can be wrong too. Always review results before you rely on or share them. They aren't professional, legal, medical, or financial advice, and you're responsible for how you use them.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use the service to:
- break the law, or infringe anyone's rights, including copyright and privacy;
- create spam, scams, malware, harassment, hate speech, or content that exploits or harms children;
- attack, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the service, or get around its security, rate limits, or allowances;
- access it by automated means, except through features we provide for that purpose;
- resell or redistribute the service without our written permission.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
8. Proofread for Windows
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Proofread for Windows with your LucidGrammar account. Don't modify, redistribute, or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows. The app reads text in the field you're typing in so it can check it, and it skips password fields. It follows these terms and the same allowances as the website.
9. Third-party services
Parts of the service rely on third parties, including LanguageTool, AI model providers, Google reCAPTCHA, and Google Sign-In. Their availability and behaviour are outside our control, and their own terms may also apply.
10. Our intellectual property
The LucidGrammar name, logo, website, and software belong to us or our licensors. These terms don't give you any right to use them except to use the service.
11. Availability and changes
We work to keep the service running, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". It may sometimes be interrupted for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control. We may add, change, or remove features. If we change these terms significantly, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, email account holders. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
12. Disclaimers and liability
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be excluded.
To the extent the law allows, we don't guarantee that the service will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that results will be accurate or fit a particular purpose. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits, data, or opportunities, arising from your use of the service. Because the service is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the minimum amount the law allows.
13. Ending your use
You can stop using the service at any time and delete your account from Account → Profile. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we stop offering the service, in which case we'll give reasonable notice where we can. The sections on your content, disclaimers and liability, and governing law continue to apply after your use ends.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of , and the courts there have jurisdiction. This doesn't take away any protection you have under the mandatory laws of the place where you live.
