In short
No advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. We use only the cookies needed to sign you in, keep sign-in secure, and count free uses. Because they're needed for the service to work, we don't ask for consent to use them, and there's no cookie banner.
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Browser storage (local storage) is similar, but it stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
Our cookies
| Cookie | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
lg_session | Keeps you signed in. It holds a random token; we store only a hash of it. | 7 days, or when you sign out |
lg_oauth | Protects "Continue with Google" sign-in against forgery. Set only while you're signing in with Google. | 10 minutes |
lg_guest | Counts the free grammar sessions and AI requests you've used without an account. It holds a random ID and nothing about you. | 1 year |
All three are first-party cookies set by LucidGrammar. They're marked HttpOnly (page scripts can't read them) and SameSite=Lax, and on our live site they're sent only over HTTPS.
Google reCAPTCHA
To stop automated abuse, the sign-in, registration, password-recovery, and contact forms use Google reCAPTCHA. It loads only on those forms, not in the editor. reCAPTCHA may set its own cookies and collect browser and device information to tell people from bots. Google's use of that information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Browser storage
The editor keeps these items in your browser's local storage so your work and settings survive a page reload. They never leave your device.
| Key | What it holds |
|---|---|
lucidgrammar.draft | Your current draft and its title. Removed when you sign out. |
lucidgrammar.dictionary | Words you've added to your personal dictionary |
lucidgrammar.language | Your chosen checking language |
lucidgrammar.tab | The last tool tab you used |
lucidgrammar.tone | Your last chosen tone |
lucidgrammar.summary | Your summary format, length, and focus preferences |
lg.returnTo (session storage) | Which page to return to after signing in. Cleared when you close the tab. |
Controlling cookies
You can view and delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. If you block our cookies, you won't be able to sign in, and free uses can't be counted. Clearing local storage deletes your saved draft and personal dictionary, so copy anything you want to keep first.
