Your account, your allowance
Sign in through your browser. Your password never touches the app. Grammar checks are free; each rewrite uses one AI request.
Install in a minute
- Download and run
Proofread.exe. It's a single file with nothing else to install. - If Windows SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway. The app isn't code-signed yet, so Windows doesn't recognise the publisher. You can check the file with the checksum below first.
- Choose "Sign in with your browser" and click Allow and sign in on the LucidGrammar page that opens.
- Start typing. Proofread lives in the system tray. Right-click its icon to pause checking, open Settings, or sign out.
Where it works
| App | Status |
|---|---|
| Notepad, WordPad, and standard Windows text boxes | Works |
| Microsoft Word and Outlook | Works. In long documents, only the part on screen is checked. |
| Text areas and most web editors in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox | Works |
| Google Docs and some canvas-based editors | Doesn't work: they don't expose their text to Windows. Use the web editor instead. |
| Apps running as Administrator | Only if Proofread also runs as Administrator |
| Password fields | Always skipped |
